INTERDISCIPLINARY
The urban concept shows that the existing parking spaces are pushed towards the edge of the plot to form a more attractive view that is central to Microlab. The number of parking spaces is in line with the local parking norm and they are arranged in such a way that pedestrians are not affected by it. The mobility plan focusses on making the area more enjoyable for pedestrians whilst still making it possible for cars to be parked nearby the various buildings. The decision has been made to give the highest priority to pedestrians, that is why the public park is easily accessible and can quietly be enjoyed without being interrupted by cyclists or other vehicles. As is visualised, the particular choice has been made to block two roads west to Microlab, to stimulate the green flow and to redirect cars.

The urban green consists of a great variety of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees and adds a new character to this area in Strijp-S. The spread of vegetation is seasonal and makes the area sustainable. Trees function both as a visual barrier to preserve intimacy and as natural shading. The open facades in the plinths of the buildings allow a good relationship between the public and collective space.

THe vision of edge

concepts
The design of the buildings can best be explained by some main design decisions that were made which are shown in the diagrams on this page. The architecture of the buildings constantly has the experience and wellbeing of the end-user in mind. The aim is to create extravagent buildings to attract people and to be visionary and futuristic while paying attention to the existing surroundings.

Each building has a clear organization with mainly commercial functions on the ground floor and living facilities on the upper floors. On the upper floors the apartments are pushed to the facades. In this way each room will have enough light, both from the exterior, as from the atrium which is placed in each building. This creates high-quality living for all the residents of EDGE. With the buildings enclosing the public space, a pleasant area that will provide for interaction and leisure is created. By these carefully placed buildings, people are invited over and guided to the area of Project EDGE.
